Today's Top Stories From Apple is A 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display will share the stage at next week's introduction of the much-anticipated iPad mini – or whatever that shrunken fondleslab may be dubbed.

As for the iMac, Apple originally planned to release three new models with upgraded panels and CPUs, but due to poor yields of the panels, the mass production of the high-end model, has been postponed, without any launch schedule. The other two models – targeting the mid-range and entry-level segments – saw shipment volumes from the supply chain increase in September.

That is, of course, if there really is an event, as reported, on October 23 to introduce a svelter sibling of Apple's iPad. And if there really is, of course, a 7.85-inch iPad in the works. The report of a smaller version of the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display appeared Sunday evening on 9to5Mac, which said that their info had come from "a consistently reliable source at a high-profile US retailer."

If a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is, indeed, in the works, it will come as no surprise – such a machine was predicted back in June, mere days after the 15-inch version was revealed. And, no, we didn't even bother calling Apple for comment. There's wasting one's time, and then there's wasting one's time in an utterly futile quest. ®

Is the impending appearance of a smaller Retina Display MacBook Pro not enough to sate your rumor hunger for today? Well then, how about a thinner iMac, with a redesign said to be of "epoch-making significance?"

If Apple is indeed experiencing difficulties with a new display assembly on the larger 27-inch iMac models, it is unclear how the company will handle a launch. It appears unlikely that Apple would debut updated versions of the 21.5-inch models without new 27-inch models also appearing, so it seems that Apple will announce both models at the same time. Given that assumption, Apple could either introduce the new models at an earlier timeframe with availability of the 27-inch models delayed somewhat, or simply hold the 21.5-inch models until the 27-inch models are ready and the company can announce immediate availability of an entirely-updated iMac lineup.
